Dr. Rubin Munteanu is a senior general surgeon with more than two decades of experience in minimally invasive surgery, including advanced laparoscopic, robotic, colorectal and complex abdominal procedures. He is part of the multidisciplinary endometriosis team at Memorial Băneasa in Bucharest, where he works alongside gynaecological surgeons in cases of deep endometriosis involving the bowel.
His role becomes particularly important when disease extends beyond the reproductive organs and affects the rectum or other parts of the intestine. In these cases, treatment may range from conservative shaving of superficial bowel lesions to disc excision or segmental resection. Choosing between these approaches requires careful assessment of lesion depth, size, location, bowel function, surgical risk and the individual goals of the patient rather than a one-size-fits-all strategy.
Dr. Munteanu is a founding member of the Foundation for Laparoscopic and Thoracoscopic Surgery in Romania and a member of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 scientific papers and has been involved for many years in the development and teaching of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
At the Summit, he will speak on “Surgical Decision-Making in Bowel Endometriosis: Shaving, Disc Excision or Bowel Resection?”
